Commenting on the European Commission’s Green Growth Package, Bernadette Ségol, General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation said
“The European Commission’s Green Growth Package is forward-thinking and progressive. It rightly puts together the need to create jobs with the need for a more environmentally sustainable economy.”
“It is short on specifics, and promises no new money, but it does propose new binding targets to reduce waste and increase recycling. This would mean investment and should create new jobs. Attention needs to be paid to jobs lost as well as created, so the commitment to more dialogue between employers and trade unions on how to achieve the transition to a greener, low carbon, more energy and resource efficient economy is welcome. So too is the recognition that such a transition needs new work skills and therefore new training and education.”
“Trade unions want to work with the European Commission and employers to create a fair transition to a more environmentally sustainable economy.”
