European trade union movement stages Euro-demonstration for better wages

Brussels, 25/03/2008

Europe's workers face common problems: shrinking purchasing power, wage moderation and inequalities. That is why the European trade unions will mobilise on 5 April - the day the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meets in Slovenia - to call for higher pay, more purchasing power and fairer wages.

At least 35,000 European trade unionists are expected, including union leaders like Dusan Semolic (ZSSS-Slovenia), Michael Sommer (DGB-Germany), Wanja Lundby-Wedin (LO-Sweden and ETUC President), Candido Mendez (UGT-Spain), François Chérèque (CFDT-France), Jean-Claude Mailly (FO-France), Bernard Thibaut (CGT-France), Luc Cortebeeck (CSC-Belgium), Jerzy Langer (Solidarnosc-Poland), Guglielmo Epifani (CGIL-Italie), Raffaele Bonanni (CISL-Italie) and others.
