Mobility package - Better no deal that a bad deal

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) supports European transport unions in calling on EU Transport Ministers meeting on December 3 not to approve the current deal that would worsen working conditions for drivers across Europe.

Liina Carr, ETUC Confederal Secretary, said “Trade unions have been engaging constructively for months with Ministers, MEPs and the European Commission but we cannot and will not accept a proposal that makes bad working conditions even worse. Frankly I am astonished that Ministers could even consider introducing rules that would force drivers to have less rest, spend more time away from home and be excluded from a guarantee of fair pay, decent working conditions and equal treatment.”

The ETUC is working with national trade unions, alongside the European and national transport unions, to make sure that the deal currently on the table is not adopted and to support instead a fair mobility package which safeguards drivers’ rights and ensures safe and fair working conditions.

The ETUC is supporting the demonstration organised by the European Transport Workers' Federation on 3 December, 10.30-13.00 outside the European Council in Brussels.
